The first EEA grants-financed project completed in Lithuania

Last updated: 02/09/2009 // The 18 th of June, 2009 marks the official completion of the first EEA grants-financed project in Lithuania : LT0041- “ Establishment of specialized health centres for children”. As a realization of a joint initiative of three major out-patient health care institutions in Vilnius – Seskine, Antakalnis and Centras policlinics- the centres will significantly improve accessibility and quality of child healthcare services in the Lithuanian capital.

Antakalnis, Centras and Seskine policlinics together provide medical services to over 300 000 inhabitants of Vilnius. The three policlinics coordinated their efforts and divided the tasks based on their strengths in various medical fields, essentially establishing a coherent system of ambulatory-consulting centres, each with a specialized profile, based on continuing cooperation. The centres will allow for increased effectiveness and efficiency of medical services available in Vilnius, avoiding unnecessary duplication of tasks and allowing for further specialization of medical professionals and institutions.

In the course of the project, repair works have been carried out at Antakalnis, Centras and Seskine policlinics, adapting existing premises for activities of the healthcare centres.  Each of the institutions purchased necessary medical equipment, enabling them to provide additional services or improve their quality.
